What Is A Handset Lifter And What Does It Do?

Find me on:

I take a lot of support calls troubleshooting office headsets and as I start going down the troubleshooting road, one of the questions I will ask is, do you have a handset lifter? The line goes silent for a moment and the next question is... what is a handset lifter?

Glad you asked!

A handset lifter is an accesory for a wireless office headset, which gives you the ability to answer or end a phone call from your headset.

This device uses double sided tape to stick to a corded office phone and mechanically picks up and lowers your handset.

Each manufacturer has their own handset lifter designed for their brand. So, keep in mind that these handset lifters aren't universal across all brands. Below is an image for you to reference, to see what it looks like installed on a corded office phone.

In many cases our customers will purchase a wireless office headset and not realize they will need this adapter in order to answer or end phone calls from the wireless headset.

This device is always sold separately unless it's bundled together with the headset (which you are paying for both either way).

The picture you see to the left is the DHL110 Handset Lifter installed on an AT&T 1040

Now that we know what a handset lifter is, lets take a look at what the different manufactures lifters look like along with the compatible models.

Plantronics HL10 Lifter

The Plantronics HL10 is compatible with all models below. In addition, depending on the corded office phone you have will depend if the HL10 works.

Jabra GN1000 Lifter

The Jabra GN1000 is compatible with your Jabra wireless headsets and just like the Plantronics model, depending on your corded office phone will determine compatibility as well. The GN1000 is compatible with all the Jabra wireless headsets listed below.

Sennheiser HSL10 Lifter

The Sennheiser HSL10 is a bit more expensive than the rest, but Sennheiser is known for their premium quality. One unique feature that the rest dont have is the ability to program this lifter to recognize specific ringtones.

Each time your phone rings a beep tone is relayed to your headset. So, if you have a phone that is constantly ringing on one phone across multiple lines, you can program this lifter to pickup only the ringtone you want vs. Always getting a beep tone in your headset when your line isn't ringing.

Compatible models the HSL10 will work with
